Perhaps the most exciting new development for us is our opening of the new Parkdale “Field House” - which will soon become Ottawa first year-round indoor market! I know it is far from your readers, but the entire Parkdale Market underwent a huge renovation last year and every aspect of the market has been improved. We opened our first booth at Parkdale ten years ago!
The City of Ottawa awarded our group of ten producers (there was a bidding process) the right to operate the Field House at the Parkdale Market during the 2011-12 season and to develop a pilot indoor/outdoor market which is the first of its kind anywhere in Ontario or Quebec and which will hopefully serve as an example for markets across the country.
Our grand opening is May 7th and the new market will initially sell: Bryson Farms’ fresh and frozen vegetables as well as our full line of frozen prepared foods, beef, lamb, wild boar, red deer, mushrooms, asparagus, fiddleheads, goat/cow cheeses, apples, pies, jams, eggs, honey, maple syrup, berries (in season), ice cream, and so much more! New vendors are being included all the time and we hope of make this market an exciting place for everyone to shop! The shop will carry a mix of certified organic and conventional items.
The City has improved our storefront to meet health regulations and we will therefore be offering samples of the products sold on an almost continuous basis.
This new indoor/outdoor market will be open Thursday-Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. through the Thanksgiving weekend after which we will assess when the market will be open for the winter (maybe just Saturdays or weekends).
And if that isn’t enough for us, we are thrilled to have Metro Glebe on Bank onboard which is now carrying all of our fresh, frozen, and prepared food products.
