You can use almost any kind of squash in this soup, the secret is roasting the squash to bring out it`s wonderful sweet flavour. If you really want to Martha the soup you can clean and roast the squash seeds for garnish.
Ingredients description
Two and one half cups white flour 3 Tbsp. ground ginger 1 Tbsp. baking soda 2 tsp. Ground cinnamon one half tsp. Ground cloves pinch salt 1 cup butter, softened one and one half cups brown sugar lightly packed 2 large eggs 1 cup molasses three quarters cup Maudite beer from Unibroue or other dark beer
Preparation
in a large sift together the dry ingredients except the brown sugar melt the butter pre heat the oven to 350 degrees grease a 9 x 13 inch loaf pan in a food processor combine the brown sugar, eggs, melted butter and molasses and blend well add the beer and blend remove the mixture to a bowl and working in 3 stages fold in the flour pour the batter into the prepared pan the batter will be the consistency of light pancake batter place the pan in the centre of a 350 degree oven and bake for 40-50 minutes remove from the oven let rest 10 minutes in the pan and turn out onto a rack
