A pile of organic Italian flat beans.

A pile of organic Italian flat beans.

These Italian Romano beans are great on their own – or as they get larger are good in stews. Great flavour and are known by various names world-wide!

Do you have to shell them ? I know you said before that you have no shelling beens, but I always see romano beans as shelled (and dried).

No, do not shell them – they are not dried beans, they are fresh!! We could grow them until they get enormous and dry them, but we don’t. The entire bean can be eaten – steamed – boiled – they are very popular in Europe in stews.

I know they’re fresh and not dried 🙂 Just didn’t know if that variety could be eaten whole. Broad beans, for examples, are not recommended to eat whole even when they’re fresh. Talking about broad beans (gourganes), have you ever though about trying to grow them ? They’re so good and versatile.
